Sep. 4—An eagle-eyed caller who noticed a pickup truck at the bottom of a California ravine saved the driver who had been trapped there for five days.
On Saturday morning, the Kern County Fire Department said it was dispatched for a report of a "badly damaged pickup truck" at the bottom of a 100-foot ravine between Arvin and Stallion Springs, about 30 minutes southeast of Bakersfield. Once they arrived at Comanche Point Road, they used a rope system to lower a firefighter down the ravine. That firefighter found an injured person who said they had been there since Tuesday. According to the fire department, the person was "immobilized" inside the truck during that time.
Additional firefighters were lowered into the ravine, and they were able to put the patient in a litter to be raised up to safety. The individual was then transported to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries. The person has not been identified.
The cause of the incident is under investigation, and no further details have been released.
