Oct. 6—COLUMBUS — The Columbus Fire Department was able to rescue a dog that had fallen 15 feet into a septic tank on Thursday night.
The Columbus Fire Department was called around 9 p.m. to 1022 North Lewis Street for a report of a dog, which weighed around 50 lbs, that had fallen into a septic tank. According from the press release from the Columbus Fire Department, the tank was located in the back of the residence house beneath their deck. It had just been emptied that day and was being serviced. The fire department entered the confined space and rescued the dog with ropes and harness. The dog was alert and appears to be uninjured. The fire department cleared the scene around midnight.
"Everyone did an awesome job tonight on this call," Columbus Deputy Fire Chief Jerrod Fox said. "We communicated about how the best way to rescue the dog would be. Safely completed all the confined space checks and permits. Cut into the deck to gain access to the entry point. Set up our tripod and rigging system on the deck. Harnessed and rigged a firefighter for entry with another firefighter ready as a backup. When the firefighter reach the bottom, he was able to harness the very cooperative dog for rescue. I am so proud of this department."
