Albuquerque firefighters rescued a seriously injured driver who was trapped in a tractor-trailer following an interstate crash with a similar vehicle late Saturday.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM—Fire crews freed a driver after he got stuck inside a semitractor-trailer Saturday evening following a crash on Interstate 40, according to Albuquerque Fire Rescue.

The driver is now in the hospital with “serious lower extremity injuries,” AFR said in a news release.

The release states that firefighters responded around 6:30 p.m. to I-40, near Eubank, after a semitractor-trailer rear-ended the same type of truck.

“Firefighters found the driver of the second semi trapped and unable to exit the cab,” according to the release. “Crews quickly jumped into action and were able to extricate the patient from the badly mangled vehicle.”

AFR said the driver was put in a waiting ambulance and taken to the hospital.
