Two motorists were trapped in their vehicle after it rolled over and caught fire Wednesday night in Palmer Township, according to the Palmer Municipal Fire Department.
Two township firefighters who happened to be in the area removed the male and female occupants from the vehicle prior to township firetrucks arriving, fire Deputy Chief Jim Alercia told lehighvalleylive.com.
Both motorists were taken by ambulance to area hospitals with injuries from the crash, Alercia said. Their names and how badly they were hurt were not immediately available.
The incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. at Nazareth Road (Route 248) and Newburg Road.
Investigators determined the vehicle struck an embankment on the west side of Nazareth Road, then hit a utility pole, causing it to roll onto its passenger side, Alercia said.
Firefighters called to respond found flames in the engine compartment and spreading into the interior where the occupants had been trapped, Alercia said.
