A Pennsylvania EMT rescued an elderly man having trouble moving away from a crashed vehicle just seconds before it became engulfed in flames and set off explosions.
The single-vehicle accident happened just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday near the Carlisle station for Cumberland Goodwill EMS, the agency said in an update accompanying a video posted online. When EMT Grace Snyder reached the crash scene, she quickly went to help an elderly man who struggled to get away from the burning vehicle.
Snyder was able to get the man away from the vehicle before flames engulfed it and caused parts, such as the tires, to explode only 20 seconds later.
"We applaud Grace for her heroism," the department stated.
Snyder joined Cumberland Goodwill EMS last year after completing the Carlisle Area School District's Emergency Responder Training course. She also is a firefighter with North Middleton Volunteer Fire Company and Carlisle Fire & Rescue Services.
"We are thankful so many organizations have contributed to fund programs that keep responders in the community so they can be there when it matters most," Cumberland Goodwill EMS added.
