New Orleans Firefighter Recalls Residents Who Refused to Evacuate

Rookie firefighter Craig Haydel rescued dozens during the flooding that followed Hurricane Katrina, but he said many refused to leave.

Craig Haydel was only on the New Orleans Fire Department for two months when Hurricane Katrina devastated the region. During their rescue operations, he pleaded with residents of a Lower Ninth Ward nursing home to evacuate, but many refused.
