Sep. 25—A vehicle fell from the third floor of the Coeur d'Alene Resort parking garage and landed on its roof, causing minor injuries to the two occupants of the car.

Firefighters responded Friday afternoon to the downtown resort where a driver went through the protective barrier in the parking garage and the car fell to the ground below, according to the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department Facebook page. The two occupants were out of the car when crews arrived and were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Resort staff is working to make repairs.

A similar incident happened 20 years ago at the River Park Square parking garage, but ended in the death of Jo Ellen Savage, a 62-year-old Pullman resident, according to previous Spokesman-Review reporting.

Savage's Subaru Outback knocked down a concrete wall at the garage in downtown Spokane and plunged five stories to the ground below, landing upside down at the top of the garage's entrance ramp on Spokane Falls Boulevard, trapping her inside. She died at the hospital.

The River Park Square garage is owned by the Cowles Co., which also owns The Spokesman-Review. Cowles Co.'s insurers settled a lawsuit with the Savage family in 2006 for $1.6 million, according to previous coverage.
