DC Firefighters Rescue 11 from Burning Boat that Partially Sank

A D.C. Fire and EMS firefighter suffered an injury that wasn't considered life-threatening while battling an electrical blaze that broke out aboard a large pleasure craft on the Potomac River.

A Washington, D.C., firefighter was injured while battling a boat that caught fire Sunday.

The blaze broke out at around 6:30 p.m. on a  large pleasure craft near Gravelly Point on the Potomac River, the department said in an online update. Police harbor boats formed a perimeter around the burning vessel while D.C. Fire and EMS crews worked to put out the flames and safely evacuate 11 people onboard.

Three fire boats used foam to put out the blaze, but the vessel still partially sank at the stern. The fire appeared to be electrical in nature, but it wasn't clear what ignited it.

A firefighter was taken to the hospital with an injury that wasn't considered life-threatening. Details weren't released on how the injury happened.
