Arizona firefighters made a dramatic rescue of three people whose vehicle became trapped in a fast-moving, rain-swollen runoff Tuesday.
Crews from the Golder Ranch and Northwest fire districts responded to a call of two vehicles caught in the Cañada del Oro Wash in Tucson, the Arizona Daily Star reports. While the driver of one of the vehicles was able to safely escape, three people remained stranded in the other vehicle.
Initially, firefighters tried to use an aerial to reach the stranded occupants. Eventually, a team of five firefighters waded through the swiftwater to rescue the three people.
The daring rescue was captured on video, and both vehicles were swept downstream following the rescue.
"Great team work from all first responders!" the Golder Ranch Fire District stated in an online post.
Along with the vehicle water rescue, the two fire districts and the Tucson Fire Department pulled two other people from the runoff. The people had been carried over a half-mile downstream, but it's not known how they ended up in the water, according to the Tucson Fire Department.
