Denver Crews Rescue Driver after Vehicle Crashes into River

Denver firefighters climbed down an embankment and used "specialized equipment" to save a driver whose vehicle crashed through an interstate barrier and into the South Platte River.

Denver firefighters rescued a driver from a watery crash early Sunday 

The accident happened at around 1:30 a.m. along Interstate 25 near Alameda Avenue, KCNC-TV reports. A vehicle was heading south on the interstate when the driver lost control and crashed through a barrier, heading down an embankment before plummeting into the South Platte River. 

Special operations crews from the Denver Fire Department responded to the scene, and firefighters climbed down embankment to reach the driver. Ropes, a large ladder and other "specialized equipment" were then used to pull the driver from the river.

Once out of the water, the driver was taken to the hospital, according to KCNC. Details concerning the nature and extent of the driver's injuries were not released.
