Oklahoma firefighters rescued two men who became caught in fast-moving flood waters under a bridge after they tried to seek shelter from sudden storms Tuesday night.

The men had fled beneath the 41st Street bridge over Mingo Creek in Tulsa after they heard tornado sirens at around 6 p.m., Tulsa World reports. But the bridge didn't provide a safe haven once the rain started and the water level rose to waist level, quickly stranding the men.

Fortunately, both men were able to grab onto a cable attached to the side of the bridge and wait for Tulsa firefighters to arrive at the scene. Rescue workers eventually lowered vests to the men from the bridge above and then let water's current carry them to creek bank, where they were pulled to safety, Tulsa World added.

Along with flash flooding, hail and high winds also were a part of the Tuesday's storms.
