A hiker has died and 200 are stranded on Mount Everest due to heavy and sudden snowfall recorded in the mountainous northwestern and western regions of China. This was reported by state broadcaster Cctv, specifying that hundreds of hikers are gradually reaching safety after they were caught by surprise by extreme and unexpected adverse conditions while on an outing during an eight-day national holiday.

Cctv explained that thanks to the intervention of hundreds of rescuers and two drones over 130 people were reached and rescued in the Qinghai region. The deceased climber was affected by hypothermia and mountain sickness in Tiger Valley. Searches continue to locate other hikers in the region, the broadcaster added without specifying how many. In nearby Tibet, 350 hikers trapped in snow in a valley leading to the eastern side of Mount Everest managed to reach the town of Qudang, Cctv reported last night.
