Dec. 23—WEST HAVEN — Officials say police officers and firefighters rescued a driver whose car went into the Long Island Sound Tuesday morning.

The single-car crash took place at the dead-end of Roberts Street, West Haven Police Lt. Patrick Buturla said.

Buturla said officers entered the water to rescue the driver. The driver and the officers who entered the water were taken to the hospital as a precaution, he said.

West Haven Director of Emergency Operations Rich Fontana said firefighters from the West Shore Fire Department were also part of the rescue.

The crash closed the area of the road and Ocean Avenue, Buturla said.
