San Francisco Firefighters See Spike in Breast Cancer

Fifteen percent of San Francisco's female firefighters between 40 and 50 have developed breast cancer.

The San Francisco Fire Department has the nation’s highest number of female firefighters, and 15 percent of those between the ages of 40 and 50 have been diagnosed with breast cancer—six times the national average.
