A Newark firefighter was struck by a vehicle while he was blocking off a street due to a arcing electrical wire Tuesday night, according to The Star-Ledger.Firefighters blocked traffic in both directions in the 700 block of Mount Prospect Avenue shortly after 7:30 p.m. and were setting up safety tape and cones and sparks fell into the road.

An oncoming driver swerved from behind the stopped vehicles and drove through the blocked off area, striking the firefighter, department spokesman Capt. John Brown told the newspaper.
The firefighter suffered and arm or wrist fracture and was transported to University Hospital for treatment.
The incident is currently under investigation.
