Nov. 07--FAIRFIELD -- One firefighter was injured battling a smoking blaze that severely damaged a single-family home on Twin Lane Road on Sunday morning.
The firefighter suffered a sprain and was treated and later released at Bridgeport Hospital.
The family's dog died in the fire.
According to Assistant Fire Chief George Gomola, the fire broke out about 9 a.m. in the modified ranch-style home at 1155 Twin Lane Road.
He said the female homeowner came home to find heavy smoke coming out of her house and called 911.
Gomola said it appears the fire began in the basement and extended up through the floors severely damaging the basement, the first floor, second floor and attic area on one side of the house.
He said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Gomola said that the fire could have been much worse but for the recent additional of fire hydrants in the area.
