A Swanton firefighter was hurt while helping extinguish a carpet factory fire Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The firefighter, whose name was not released, was treated at the scene for a low blood glucose level, Swanton Fire Chief Chad Smith said.
The fire at Scottdel, Inc., 400 Church St., was reported at 5:58 a.m. Fire crews arrived within a minute, saw heavy smoke coming from the building, and found residual fire left under the factory machines after the sprinkler system extinguished most of the blaze. There was no one in the building at the time, Chief Smith said.
The fire was likely caused by a machine malfunction, the fire chief said. A damage estimate was unavailable.
