Two firefighters were hurt and as many as 40 people were displaced during a huge fire in downtown Pulaski that began late Friday night in a bowling alley and spread to four other buildings.

Lt. Nick Craig of the Green Bay Fire Department said the blaze began at 11:30 p.m. at the Wood Lanes Bowling Alley in downtown Pulaski. The fire quickly spread to four other buildings, including apartments, Craig said.

Craig said as many 60 pieces of fire equipment were used in the blaze. A total of 23 different fire departments assisted in fighting the blaze.

"This was a very large fire incident," Craig said. "This happened on the main drag."

Crews were still on the scene mid Saturday morning, Craig said. Firefighters were hampered at times fighting the fire because of slippery conditions due to sleet.

Craig said the county's investigative task force had been dispatched to determine the cause of the blaze. The state's fire marshal also has been summoned, he said.

Craig said he did not know the extent of the injuries to the firefighters, though he said they had been taken to a hospital for treatment. The Red Cross was on the scene assisting those who had been displaced.
