A woman came to the aid of an off-duty Moneta firefighter who was struck by a car while helping a stranded motorist on Aug. 14, according to WSLS-TV.
Firefighter Shawn Ring, 26, was expected to be released from Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Wednesday after being treated for a brain injury.
Ring was trying to cross Moneta Road while helping the driver change a tire when he was hit by the car.
Minette Boyd was in front of the car that hit Ring, and saw the crash in her rearview mirror.
"He was lying in the middle of the road and I went over and stood by him and held his hand," she told the news station.
Boyd says even though Ring may not remember her face, there is a bond between them.
"I was blessed to be able to help someone in the community who spends his life serving. And so I feel like truly a blessing to me be able to come full circle, to help somebody who's a firefighter."
