Pa. City Closes Fire Station Over Mold Fears

-- Sept. 30--The Allentown Fire Department closed down its East Side Fire Station on Thursday afternoon for fear the wet weather had filled it with an unhealthful quantity of mold. The East Side firefighters and Engine 13 were moved from their 718 N. Irving St. quarters to the Hibernia Fire Station on 643 Ridge Ave., across the Lehigh River. A fire official said the crew will stay at Hibernia until tests show the East Side station air is clean.

The East Side firefighters and Engine 13 were moved from their 718 N. Irving St. quarters to the Hibernia Fire Station on 643 Ridge Ave., across the Lehigh River. A fire official said the crew will stay at Hibernia until tests show the East Side station air is clean.

To help response times, some equipment will stay at the East Side station while the testing is completed, an official said.
