Pa. Port Authority Settles Firefighter's Lawsuit

-- Sept. 22--Port Authority of Allegheny County said on Wednesday it has reached a $110,000 settlement with a firefighter injured in 2003 when the hose he used to fight a car fire became stuck in the rear axle of a passing bus. The tension created in the hose threw Henry Greenawald, a firefighter with the Central Volunteer Fire Company in Elizabeth Township, from his feet and caused permanent injuries to his right arm, wrist and hand, the authority said. He has medical bills totaling more than $58,000, the authority said.

Greenawald, who sued Port Authority in October 2005 in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court, could not be reached for comment.
