Fire crews were called to an apartment fire and possible explosion early Sunday morning, according to the Sacramento Metro Fire Department.
It happened at the Garden Plaza apartments on the 2200 block of Watt Avenue.
According to Scott Cockrum, Assistant Fire Chief with Sacramento Metro Fire, one person jumped out of a third floor window and suffered multiple injuries. Three others, including two firefighters, suffered minor injuries.
Some people who live at the complex reported hearing an explosion-like sound before evacuating the building.
Resident Wesley Jackson said he heard a boom and glass shatter. "I look out the window at the lady across from me on the third floor, just her whole entire ceiling was on fire. I (saw) a man jump out the window from the second floor," Jackson said.
The fire resulted in the evacuation of all 143 apartment units.
Residents from units that have utilities shut off are expected to be able to return within 12-24 hours. Residents from units damaged by fire, smoke or water will be displaced longer, according to Trista Cunningham, with the Capitol Region chapter of the American Red Cross.
The Red Cross has set up a shelter located at the Richard P. Conzelmann Community Center at 2201 Cottage Way, in Howe Park for victims displaced by the fire.
Sacramento fire crews said the cause of the fire is unknown.
