Two Fireworks Showmen Injured by Shell in Ohio

HILLSBORO, Ohio -- Two workers were injured when a firework shell exploded prematurely on Saturday. The Hillsboro Times-Gazette reported the Rozzi Fireworks workers were putting on a show at Rocky Fork Lake State Park on Saturday night when a shell exploded too soon during the finale.

Two workers were injured when a firework shell exploded prematurely on Saturday.

The Hillsboro Times-Gazette reported the Rozzi Fireworks workers were putting on a show at Rocky Fork Lake State Park on Saturday night when a shell exploded too soon during the finale.

"The two sustained injuries attempting to escape the area after a shell detonated early, causing a catastrophic event," a press release from Hillsboro Fire and Rescue stated. "Several shells were exploded on or near the ground. Both men were struck by shells and required treatment and transport from the scene."

Fire officials said one man was treated and released from Highland District Hospital, while the other was flown to Miami Valley Hospital via CareFlight for treatment of internal injuries.

Neither man's name has been released.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the incident, and has determined that all permits and codes were followed.
