ASHEBORO, N.C.
--
Assistant Chief Eddy Cockman, of the Asheboro Fire Department, said a firefighter injured his left leg while fighting an apartment blaze Saturday morning.
Cockman said firefighters responded to a fire call at the Brookwood Apartment Complex on South Church Street in Asheboro at 10:25 a.m.
The AFD said one of the firefighters went out to get something out of the fire truck and never came back inside the apartment.
Firefighters said they found him on the ground, but still conscious, suffering from an injury to his left leg.
Cockman said the AFD is investigating how the firefighter suffered his injury.
Fire investigators said they believe the fire started in the attic due to an electrical short. They said the estimated damage reached $75,000.
