Kansas Firefighter's Home Catches Fire

SHAWNEE, Kan. -- An off-duty firefighter said he awoke to find his garage on fire early Friday morning. The firefighter said he thought he heard someone in the garage of his home at 5203 Monrovia Road at around 5:30 a.m. When he got to his garage he found it on fire. The firefighter was able to get his wife and two small children out of the home, firefighters said. The fire spread through the garage and into the upper levels of the home, badly damaging the structure.

The firefighter said he thought he heard someone in the garage of his home at 5203 Monrovia Road at around 5:30 a.m.

When he got to his garage he found it on fire.

The firefighter was able to get his wife and two small children out of the home, firefighters said.

The fire spread through the garage and into the upper levels of the home, badly damaging the structure.

Shawnee Fire Chief John Maddox said the Olathe Fire Department will investigate the fire because it involved a member of the Shawnee Fire Department.
