BAKERSFIELD, Calif. --
An unconscious man was pulled from a burning home early Monday morning.
Sean Collins with the Kern County Fire Department said that, about 8:20 a.m., a call was received by the KCFD for a house fire in the 6100 block of Olive Drive in northwest Bakersfield.
Crews said they saw white smoke coming from the eaves of the home.
After completing a search outside the home, Collins said firefighters forced their way through the front door and started working on the fire in the living area.
While extinguishing the fire, crews found an unconscious elderly man in a front bedroom, Collins said.
The man was brought outside by firefighters and was possibly suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation, Collins said. Basic life support was provided by fire crews at the scene.
Collins said the man regained consciousness before an ambulance arrived and took the man to a local hospital.
Firefighters remained on the scene to ensure the fire was extinguished and to remove debris.
Firefighters said the fire destroyed an estimated $20,000 in property.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no reported injuries to firefighters.
