An Ocean Grove firefighter was hospitalized Friday morning after a fall collapsed on him while battling a four-alarm house fire, according to The Asbury Park Press.
The injured firefighter was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and is expected to be OK, Fire Chief Ed Deucher told the newspaper.
Two elderly residents also were hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
Crews responded to the fire between Surf and Atlantic Avenues shortly after 5 a.m. The flames eventually damaged or destroyed 13 properties surrounding the home in which the blaze originated.
The fire was under control by 7:45 a.m. as crews continued to spray water on the home.
A total of eight homes were destroyed by the blaze that reached four alarms.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
