Mich. Firefighters Rescued After Roof Collapse

The five firefighters were trapped in the rubble for more than 10 minutes.
Five firefighters had to be rescued Saturday when they became trapped after a roof they were on collapsed while battling a blaze in Leslie, Mich., according to The Jackson Citizen Patriot.

The roof and the second floor fell into the first floor, sending the firefighters into the debris, Ingham County Emergency Management Program Manager Sgt. Robert Ott told the newspaper.

Mayday calls were issued at 9:18 a.m. and all of them were pulled out with only minor injuries.

They were trapped in the rubble for more than 10 minutes.

Seven firefighters were injured in the collapse and the rescue while two others were treated for smoke inhalation and one was hurt after slipping on ice at the scene.

All of them were transported to Sparrow Hospital for treatment and none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.

Crews responded to the fire at approximately 7 a.m. at Moo's Bar & Grill at 147 South Main Street.

Eight departments responded to the blaze

An occupant of an upstairs apartment escaped the flames and was transported to the hospital.

The structure was a total loss and the cause of the fire is still unknown.
