SACRAMENTO, Calif. --

A robber who attempted to a stab store employee during a holdup was captured by firefighters after he threatened them, according to Sacramento police.

When officers arrived at the back of Station 4 on Granada Way, firefighters had captured 35-year-old Douglas Chinn.

Officers were told Chinn was confronted while running behind the station and attempted to stab a fire captain about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Moments earlier Chinn attempted to leave Rite Aid drug store on Alhambra Boulevard after putting a bottle of brandy in his pants, police said.

When confronted, he pulled a butterfly knife and attempted to stab an employee, authorities said. While running out of the store, he stuck another employee with the brandy bottle, police added.

He then ran behind the fire station, where he encountered firefighters maintaining equipment.

Chinn is being held in the Sacramento County Jail, with bail set at $90,000.

He was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and possession of an illegal weapon.
