LOUISVILLE, Ky. --
Officials said lightning was behind a house fire Saturday night.
"The homeowner says his house shook, but he did not think it was his home," said Rick Tonini of the St. Matthews Fire Department. "But the electricity flickered and he started smelling smoke."
It's believed lightning struck a home on Bainbridge Row Drive in the Indian Hills neighborhood.
Tonini said the blaze began in the basement and spread from there.
Firefighters were forced to get out of the house after the kitchen floor collapsed.
Three people inside the home at the time of the blaze got out safely.
One firefighter was checked at the scene for heat exhaustion; another suffered a cut from flying glass.
The fire was reported at the height of the storm.
