KANSAS CITY, Mo.
--
Two firefighters were injured and three condominiums were burned in an overnight fire in the 1100 block of NW 70th Court.
The fire occurred shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday, and fire crews said an unattended fireplace is to blame for the blaze.
Fire crews said the fire was difficult to fight because of the extreme cold, freezing water and steep terrain around the building.
One firefighter fell from an interior balcony from the second floor and sustained minor injuries, and another firefighter fell outside of the structure and broke his ankle.
The six people inside the condos were able to make it out of the units without injury. The building held four condos total.
Fire crews estimate the damage at $150,000 for the structure and $300,000 for the contents.
