YORKVILLE, OH --

At least 10 firefighters have resigned from Yorkville's Fire Department citing safety issues as their main reason for quitting.

News9 spoke with three of the firefighters that resigned by phone. They said they didn't want to talk on camera because they "don't want to cause trouble."

For residents in the community, 10 firefighters resigning says it all.

Yorkville resident Rich Deneen said, "You can't have 10 firemen quit. Something has to be wrong. That's a consensus."

A fireman who wanted to remain anonymous said the firefighters made several attempts to get newer safety gear. He said they asked village council for better helmets, coats, boots, gloves and aerial equipment. But he said they were denied by the village on several occasions.

When asked about the resignations, village council member Dana Brown said, "The village has no comment right now."

That's something that isn't comforting Yorkville residents.

Deneen said, "They have a serious problem. They need to sit down and talk."
