WEST NEWTON, Pa. --

Two firefighters recovered Thursday night after a fire in Westmoreland County.

It happened at a home in West Newton. The house was heavily damaged. Channel 11 talked to a woman who was born and raised there. She moved next door when her son and grandson bought the house. She says they saw flickering lights and then smoke.

"My grandson said there were lights flickering when he was in the garage, but they go off like that a lot around here, so he didn't pay attention to it. Then his girlfriend came home and saw smoke coming out of the chimney," Beverly Hunt said.

Everyone in the house, including their dog, got out safely. Most of the fire damage is in the basement. The fire started in the hot water tank.

One firefighter was treated for breathing problems, the other for minor burns.
