CLINTON, Iowa -- Fire officials said four people are dead after a late night house fire in Clinton. Clinton Fire Department Lt. Jim Sowle said firefighters responded to the blaze at the two-story house around 11:30 p.m. Friday. A fifth person survived the fire without any injuries.

CLINTON, Iowa --

Fire officials said four people are dead after a late night house fire in Clinton.

Clinton Fire Department Lt. Jim Sowle said firefighters responded to the blaze at the two-story house around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

He said the blaze was extinguished in a matter of minutes.

Sowle said the four bodies were found inside. A fifth person survived the fire without any injuries.

Authorities have not identified any of the victims yet.

There was extensive smoke and fire damage inside the house, although the outside of the house remained in tact.

Clinton police and fire officials are investigating the cause. Sowle said a preliminary investigation indicates the cause was accidental.

The house did not have working fire detectors.
