OKLAHOMA CITY --
A firefighter was sent to a local hospital after falling into the basement of a burning house early Wednesday morning, fire officials said.
The fire broke out at Northeast 15th Street and Walnut Avenue just after 3 a.m. Wednesday.
The firefighter was rushed to a local hospital with a wrist injury, but crews said he should be OK.
Firefighters said the house was totally engulfed in flames with heavy smoke when they arrived. They tried to go inside to fight the fire but had to pull out because the roof collapsed.
The wind caused problems as well. Crews said the wind blew embers more than a half a block away causing a small grass fire. Crews said they were able to quickly put it out.
The house was vacant and no one was inside. They say this is a suspicious fire and arson investigators will look into it.
