LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. --

Two firefighters were injured while battling a fire in a mansion north of Fort Collins Saturday afternoon.

Holger Durre, spokesman for Poudre Fire Authority, said one firefighter was taken to Poudre Valley Hospital after an undisclosed medical condition showed up during an evaluation at the scene.

Another firefighter was treated at the scene after being struck by falling debris inside the burning house.

Poudre firefighters were called out to a report of smoke coming from a house at 7114 Douglas Lake Ranch Road, located a few miles north of Fort Collins. An ice fisherman on Douglas Lake made the 911 call shortly after 3 p.m. after spotting the smoke.

The roof and one side of the house were in flames when firefighters arrived. The roof in that part of the 12,000-square-foot house collapsed due to fire damage.

Durre said it took 40 firefighters from Poudre Fire Authority and Wellington Fire Protection District to contain the blaze.

Durre said the house was bank-owned but a caretaker was apparently looking after the house. Nobody was home at the time of the fire, he said.
