Iowa Firefighter Hurt Responding to House Fire

Dec. 13--WATERLOO -- A Waterloo firefighter was treated for minor injuries while battling a blaze at 1825 Franklin St.

Details weren't available, but officials said it appears the firefighter fell while attempting to negotiate stairs in heavy smoke. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

After the fire broke out, a Waterloo man jumped from a second-floor window to escape a fire that broke out in his home Tuesday.

The resident wasn't injured, but the fire caused severe damage to his home at 1825 Franklin St.

The fire was discovered shortly after 9 a.m., and a neighbor's house was evacuated as a precaution.

Fire officials said the blaze started with unattended cooking.
