Chicago Firefighter Hurt, 15 Displaced in Building Fire

Jan. 03--A firefighter suffered a shoulder injury and 15 adults were displaced following a fire in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side tonight. The blaze started about 8:25 p.m. in the attic of a 2-story residential building at 429 N. Central Ave., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Kevin MacGregor. While fighting the blaze, one firefighter suffered a minor shoulder injury, said MacGregor. He was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, said MacGregor.

The blaze started about 8:25 p.m. in the attic of a 2-story residential building at 429 N. Central Ave., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Kevin MacGregor.

While fighting the blaze, one firefighter suffered a minor shoulder injury, said MacGregor. He was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, said MacGregor.

Fifteen adults were left homeless after the fire, which was extinguished about 9:20 p.m. MacGregor said the city's Dep. of Human Services was notified.

MacGregor said the cause of the fire was not immediately known.
