Three residents were transported to local hospitals, one by medical helicopter, after being injured in an early-morning house fire in East Northport on Wednesday, Suffolk County police and fire officials said.
A volunteer firefighter from the East Northport Fire Department also was treated at a local hospital for minor burns and released, East Northport Fire Chief Michael Tarantino said.
Fire officials said one of the burn victims was transported by helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center, while the other two injured residents of the home on Town Line Road were taken to Huntington Hospital.
The identities of the victims have not been released.
Police described all of the injuries as "non-life-threatening," though the conditions of the victims were not known.
The fire was reported at 5:13 a.m. In addition to the East Northport Fire Department, volunteers from the Northport, Centerport, Greenlawn, Commack and Kings Park fire departments all were on scene. Crews from Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded, fire officials -said.
Tarantino said there were eight residents in the home when the fire began, apparently in the kitchen. All of the occupants, except one, managed to get out of the house before the arrival of emergency personnel. Tarantino said the other resident was asleep and was escorted from the house by firefighters and police.
Police said arson squad investigators sent to the scene said the fire does not appear to be criminal, but said the cause of the fire was undetermined -- and still under investigation.
