A Baltimore County firefighter was flown to shock trauma Tuesday morning after he was struck by tree limbs while attempting to rescue a crash victim.

The unidentified member of the Lutherville Volunteer Fire Company assisting with the SUV wreck near Cromwell Bridge and Satyr Hill Roads when the incident occurred, according to The Towson Patch.

Firefighters were lowering a ladder down to the Ford Explorer that drove into a ditch when the branches came loose from the tree and struck the 22-year-old firefighter from Squad 303, department spokeswoman Elise Armacost told the website.

The firefighter was wearing all his protective gear and was conscious as he was transported to the Shock Trauma Center by helicopter with non-life-threatening injuries.
