Two Nashville Firefighters Injured in Apartment Blaze

Officials say a 5-year-old boy playing with a lighter set a mattress on fire.

Two Nashville firefighters were injured while battling a blaze Friday morning believed to be started by a child after one fell through the floor and another was burned.

Crews responded to a fire at an apartment complex in the Madison neighborhood around midnight that started in a bottom united and spread to an above unit, according to WSMV-TV.

Both units were destroyed by the fire.

One firefighter hurt his shoulder after falling through the floor and another sustained burns to his hands.

Both were transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center and were treated and released.

Officials told the news station that a 5-year-old boy playing with a lighter set a mattress on fire.

No residents were injured in the fire.
