The unidentified firefighter was transported to Rush University Medical Center to be examined, according to The Chicago Tribune.

Crews responded to the blaze in a three-story building at Whipple and Madison streets around 8:25 a.m.

The 20 feet by 40 feet structure suffered a partial collapsed during the blaze and it was extinguished in under an hour, department spokesman Kevin MacGregor told the newspaper.

There were no further details provided on the medical emergency suffered by the firefighter.
