Two California Firefighters Injured in Electrical Blast

They were thrown back close to 10 feet after an electrical vault exploded.

YORBA LINDA, Calif. -- Two firefighters were injured after an electrical vault exploded on a street in Yorba Linda Sunday.

The explosion was reported just before 8 p.m. Sunday in a residential area near Fairmont and Yorba Linda boulevards.

According to Edison spokesman Paul Klein, the explosion, which is adjacent to a substation, was caused by an equipment failure and has affected two major circuits.

The two firefighters who were hurt were thrown back approximately 10 feet by the explosion, fire officials said.

As many as 3 explosions followed the initial blast.

Over 3,300 Southern California Edison customers in the Orange County area were without power before it was fully restored by 10:40 p.m. Sunday night.

The firefighters have been transported to Western Medical Center with mild injuries.

The cause of the explosion is currently unknown.

Yorba Linda Boulevard is closed between Fairmont Boulevard and Avenida Rio Del Oro.

No further details have been released.
