DENVER --
A Denver firefighter was injured fighting a blaze in a vacant church on Wednesday morning.
Fire crews dispatched at 6:45 a.m. to the Great Temple of Jerusalem Church, 3590 Grape St., found smoke belching from the roof and windows, said Denver fire spokesman Lt. Phil Champagne.
About 32 firefighters quickly snuffed out the flames.
One firefighter, who was breaking out glass, injured his elbow when debris came down on him, Champagne said.
The fire started in the stage area of the church, Champagne said. The cause looks accidental, but it remains under investigation.
The church is in probate court and it has not been used for about a year, he said.
