PORTLAND, Ore. -- Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at a condominium complex Wednesday afternoon where two firefighters were injured and another came out unscathed after falling through the roof.
Crews responded to The Village at Multnomah at 7939 SW 40th around 4:11 p.m. after callers reported seeing a black cloud of smoke and that a babysitter and child were possibly trapped inside, according to a department press release.
Firefighters from Station 18 arrived three minutes after receiving the call and pulled a hose line as they advanced inside to perform a search and rescue.
During the search, the flames and heat worsened and forced them back out.
Two firefighters received burns to their knees and wrists and suffered heat exhaustion and were transported to the Emanuel Burn Center with non-life threatening injuries.
It was later determined that the babysitter and child had safety escaped before firefighter arrived.
During the attack, one firefighter fell through the roof of the structure, but he was uninjured.

Six units were involved in fire, resulting in eight people being displaced.
The blaze was brought under control by 5 p.m. and the cause is currently under investigation.
