Eight D.C. firefighters fell ill Wednesday night after responding to a fire at an alleged drug lab earlier in the day.
Six of the sickened firefighters returned to work Thursday while two others will remain on sick leave to undergo more tests and evaluations before they are cleared to go back to work, according to WRC-TV.
The firefighters from the Engine 10 and Truck 13 station located in the Trinidad section of the city complained of chemical exposure symptoms including respiratory problems and burning eyes.
The shift was replaced and the department declared a mass casualty hazmat and took the firefighters to the police and fire clinic to be observed.
Officials believe the illness may have stemmed from a fire call the crew responded to around 11 a.m. in the 3700 block of Hayes Street NE at the scene of a suspected PCP lab.
The incident is currently under investigation.
