DURHAM, N.C. -- A Durham city firefighter was injured Monday while fighting a house fire, and a Saturday fire left two adults displaced.
Firefighters were called at 1:30 a.m. to a blaze at a two-story, wood-frame house at 1112 Holloway St., Deputy Fire Chief Dan Curia of the Durham Fire Department said.
A firefighter burned his hand and was transported to Durham Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released Monday.
Firefighters saw heavy flames coming from the house when they arrived. They searched inside and didn't find anyone, but evidence suggested that squatters may have lived there at some point, Curia said.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
Firefighters were called about 5:04 a.m. Saturday to a fire at a single-story, wood-frame house at 1918 E. Main St.
Two adults were displaced, and the American Red Cross is providing them temporary housing. No one was hurt.
Curia said an occupant told a fire captain that he was cooking and fell asleep. A smoke alarm woke him up.
Fire investigators determined the fire was an accident.
