Two Chicago firefighters suffered minor injuries in an extra-alarm fire on the city's Southeast Side.

No residents were injured in the blaze that started at about 12:20 a.m. in a 1 1/2-story home in the 10200 block of South Ewing Avenue, just a short distance from the state line, fire officials said.

The fire, which grew to a 2-11 alarm, spread to an adjacent commercial building, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

Fire crews battled flames for about an hour before successfully extinguishing it. One firefighter suffered a cut to the face and was taken to Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Hammond, while a second firefighter was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center for heat exhaustion.

The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known.
