A Weare firefighter was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after he was hit by a car driven by a 91-year-old woman while working at the scene of a big-rig wreck on Wednesday.
According to a news report published by the Union Leader, a New Hampshire newspaper of record, Jeff Lewis, 31, of Goffstown, was assisting with traffic at the scene of the wreck when he was hit by a 91-year-old woman driving a 2001 Ford Focus. Lewis was taken to Concord Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The driver who hit him, Alice Grenier, of Weare, was charged with vehicular assault and reckless operation, according to the newspaper. She is scheduled to be arraigned in Goffstown (N.H.) District Court on Jan. 24.
According to the paper, responders were initially summoned to a collision between a tractor-trailer truck and a Dodge Neon after the car allegedly pulled in front of the truck. The rear of the car was seriously damaged and its driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the truck, which jack-knifed, was not injured.
The Union Leader reported that the original crash is under investigation by the Weare police.
