Feb. 17--Three firefighters were assessed for injuries Sunday after being dragged by a car in a confrontation with a medical patient, authorities said.
The firefighters arrived at E. Capitol Blvd. and N. Richards St. about 1 p.m. to help medical responders who were trying to wrestle with a driver who appeared to be in an "altered state," Milwaukee Fire Department Deputy Chief Jack Christianson said.
The man escaped from the medical responders and ran to his car. Thee firefighters chased the man and tried to grab his keys.
"In the process, the driver took off with two of our guys hanging on the side of the car" and one firefighter inside, trying to stop the vehicle, Christianson said.
The man drove 20 to 30 feet before the firefighters stopped him, the deputy chief said. The firefighters had been treated and released from a hospital Sunday afternoon. The driver also was hospitalized because of his condition, Christianson said.
